The shape of the trip

Day by day.

One fort, two bays, and a rule we don’t break: no more than ninety minutes in the car on any day. Whales in the morning if it’s the season, a book in the afternoon, and a different seafood shack every night.

  1. Days 1–2

    Galle

Inside the fort walls, with a morning walk along the ramparts and an afternoon in the Dutch Reformed Church and the maritime museum.

  2. Days 3–4

    Mirissa

An early boat if the sea is kind, then a slow lunch and a long beach. Koggala’s stilt fishermen on the way.

  3. Days 5–7

    Tangalle

The quiet end of the coast. A cookery class, a lagoon boat trip, and a last day with no plans beyond dinner.
